Welcome back to school.  We hope that you have all had a lovely time over the Easter break and enjoyed some of the nice sunny weather!  We are excited to get going with our next topic: Animal Safari.  We are looking forward to having lots of fun and taking part in many learning experiences with you.

This term our topic is Animal Safari.  The children have already told us many interesting facts that they know about animals.  They have also thought of animal questions that they would like explore to find out more.

Over the summer term we will be looking at different types of animals, their habitats, how to look after them, how animals help us, how we can help them:

- Pets and vets

- Paws and whiskers

- Pet shops

- Animals who help us

- Mini-beasts

- Beach and rock-pool animals

- Ocean animals

- Farm animals

- British wildlife and birds

We will be focusing on embedding the Curriculum for Wales 4  purposes in our topic by being ambitious, capable learners, enterprising, creative contributors, ethical, informed citizens and healthy, confident individuals.

Important Information

PE will be on Friday mornings.

Forest school will be on Friday afternoons.

On Fridays, please can pupils come to school wearing school uniform and bring a bag with PE kit and a bag with Forest School kit.

We will be encouraging independence in changing clothes and encouraging children to look after their own clothes by storing them in one place when not wearing them. (Please ensure all clothes are labelled as it is very easy for them to get mislaid or mixed up).

When the weather is wet, please include a change of socks incase socks get wet and muddy inside their wellies!

Snack and Water

Please can ALL children bring a snack to school, please ensure it is something your child WILL eat, and is labelled or in a labelled pot (no nuts please).

Please can ALL children bring a water bottle to school, labelled with their name.  Children always have access to their water and we do fill water bottles up when empty.  Milk is also offered to children mid-morning.

We are following the Read Write Inc scheme to support phonics and reading skills. The children have daily RWI sessions to learn initial letter sounds and green words.  Fred is a friendly frog who helps to sound out letters and blend sounds to read words. He also helps us to spell words using 'Fred Fingers'. More information about Read Write Inc can be found in the guide below.

To support this, yellow sound books are sent home weekly, new sounds and words are introduced when your child is ready.  Please can these books be returned to school every Monday?

Home reading books are sent home weekly and a reading record has been supplied by the school.

The Read Write Inc programme supports literacy and pupils read the Oxford Reading Tree and Dandelion reading books.  Please can you spend ten minutes daily supporting your child to read. This could be using flashcards for sounds, high frequency words or reading books.

Pupils are working hard to learn high frequency words.  These are vital to aide an understanding of the reading books.  Please spend time helping the children learn these words.  They are grouped into more manageable sets of four words which we refer to by their characters name (e.g. Olaf's words, Marshall's words ... ). As your child learns each character's words, they are given a certificate to take home.  Examples of these groups of high frequency words can be found below.

We would also be very grateful if you could make comments via Seesaw or the reading record.

Please see below for some documents about how to support your child's reading at home.
